Arrowhead was the great writer Herman Melville's home from 1850 to 1863, and the site where he wrote his most famous work, "Moby Dick" and a number of other novels and short stories. The modest yellow 18th-century farm house contains a museum devoted to Melville and his family's life in the Berkshires; visitors can stand on the porch and look upon the same stunning view of Mount Greylock that Melville did as he sat for hours on end in his rocking chair. Arrowhead lies south of town, just below the Country Club of Pittsfield.
